Carlsberg and Fold7 are teaching Anfield to sign YNWA in BSL
We are incredibly proud to be working with Carlsberg, Liverpool FC, and the British Deaf Association on a campaign to change the game and deliver against Carlsberg’s mission to make the best parts of football accessible to everyone.
There are few moments in sport as spine-tingling as Anfield rising together, 60,000 strong, to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone." It is more than an anthem; it is a ritual of pride, togetherness, and belonging. It is the heartbeat of the club.
But for many Deaf and hard of hearing fans, this iconic moment of unity can feel isolating. Research reveals that 81% of Deaf and hard of hearing fans want to participate in matchday chants but feel unable to do so. That means a significant portion of the football community is excluded from one of the most powerful experiences of fan culture.
Together with the BDA and Carlsberg, we have created four simple signs for the club's four famous words. Our goal is to see the whole of Anfield sign—You'll Never Walk Alone—in British Sign Language (BSL) right before kick-off on February 28th, at the home match against West Ham United.
In the lead-up to the match, we’ve been leading a fan engagement strategy, working with players and legends to reach Liverpool’s stadium-goers and millions of fans worldwide. By teaching these bespoke signs, we are ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing fans can finally take part in the moment.
